Forge Clash Insight
A 3D clash-detection prototype for UtahBIM: it finds clashes between building models, scores how much each one matters and explains them in plain language.
Problem
Clashes between building systems in a 3D model are costly when they are found late, and a long list of them doesn't tell a team which to fix first. Forge Clash Insight is a prototype for finding clashes, ranking them and explaining them.
My role
I was the main developer, building it for UtahBIM.
Approach
- Models in. Users sign in with Autodesk (APS/ACC) or Procore and pick models from their projects. Models from different disciplines are aligned automatically before they're compared.
- Detection. Several collision-detection algorithms work together to find intersecting elements.
- Scoring. Each clash gets a score from 0 to 10 and a low, medium or high risk level. The score is weighted by which building systems meet, using a priority matrix the team maintains.
- Analysis. Clashes are grouped by area of the building, and an LLM writes a short, plain-language summary of each area's coordination problems, returned as validated structured output.
- Review. A Three.js viewer shows the scored clashes in 3D, and existing Autodesk Construction Cloud issues can be brought into the model with their root causes and rooms.
- Quote requests. A quote-request flow sends leads straight into UtahBIM's CRM.
Outcome
A prototype for UtahBIM, built around four steps: select models, view them in 3D, read the clash report and review each clash in the viewer.
